Gratton Returns as HC

For immediate release:

The Welland Jr. Canadians are excited to announce Chris Gratton as their Head Coach for the upcoming 2024/25 season.

Gratton returns to the club for his first full season with the Jr. Canadians, having joined them as an assistant coach in December 2023 during a coaching restructure led by then-Head Coach Trevor Lariviere, who has opted to not return to the staff for the upcoming season.

“Coming back just felt like the right move,” says Gratton. “There are many great people in the organization, and I’m excited to work with all of them to ensure we have the best possible season.”

The 15-year NHL veteran led the Jr. Canadians to a remarkable 29-point turnaround in the last three months of the 2023/2024 season. This was followed by pushing the former Golden Horseshoe Conference Champions to Game Seven in the first round of the postseason. Notably, this came after the team began the season at 3-18-1 under a different coaching staff.

In addition to Gratton, the Jr. Canadians are excited to welcome back Assistant Coaches Brady Afelskie and Tyler LeClair.

“Just a no-brainer to welcome the entire coaching staff back,” says Owner Lou Savona. “They did a remarkable job last season, and I really enjoyed working with them.”
