Dave Burkholder Returning as Coach

The Welland Jr. Canadians are excited to announce that Dave Burkholder will return as Head Coach for the 2022/23 season. This will be Burkholder’s second season behind the Jr. Canadians bench.

“We’re very excited that Burky will return,” said Owner Louis M. Savona. “Our team had a fantastic season under Burky, and I know he’s already looking forward to 2022/23.”

Last season, Burkholder led the Jr. Canadians to 19 wins, the team’s most since 16/17, which is a 14-win and 27-point improvement from the 2019/20 season. That was good enough to finish 16th in the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League (GOJHL), the team’s highest place in the standings since 15/16.

Prior to his role with the Jr. Canadians, Burkholder served as the Head Coach of the NCAA Division 1 Men’s Hockey program at Niagara University. He spent 16 seasons as Niagara University as head coach, and another five seasons as an assistant. He was a member of all four Niagara championship seasons and NCAA tournament appearances. He also spent three seasons in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) as an assistant coach with the Niagara Falls Thunder.

Stay tuned throughout the offseason as the Jr. Canadians as we unveil the rest of our bench staff.

Everyone in the Jr. Canadians organization would like to welcome Burkholder and his family back to the team.
